LULZ from the City of Vancouver

You know, tonight wasn’t supposed to be just me grepping my logs, but this is fun. The City of Vancouver (including the Vancouver Police Department) all surf from the same IP, so sometimes you see fun things like this:

paroxysms.access.log.18.gz:199.175.219.1 - - [01/Sep/2011:17:23:31 +0000] “GET /2011/06/who-is-alphonse-macneil/ HTTP/1.1” 200 5210 “http://www.google.ca/search?q=bud+mercer&hl=en&prmd=ivnso&ei=NMBfToSaI9DKiALLwImwDg&start=30&sa=N” “Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR 3.5.30729)” </em>

So, what happened to Bud Mercer? If the City of Vancouver doesn’t know what happened to one of the slimiest, most evil motherfuckers the RCMP has ever assigned to Assistant Commissioner, I don’t know who does. It’d be good to keep tabs on the RCMP’s ex-cop to see where he ends up. Could he end up being a police chief in a major city? Sure, he’s not as bat-shit insane as Jamie Graham of the VicPD (formerly of VPD until he quit/got forced out for being so fucked up), but it would be frightening to see him come in after Jim Chu, who, despite being a cop, sometimes has moments of clarity like “No, we are not going to break into your condo and take down your sign”. If they’re not looking for him for that reason, why look for the former top cop of the Olympics? The thought of Bud Mercer being the head of the Vancouver Police Department is frightening, since it would mean endless harassment of every one of his enemies, myself included. It would also escalate the violence of the police, as well as the violence against the police because of Mercer’s confrontational style.

paroxysms.access.log.20.gz:199.175.219.1 - - [30/Aug/2011:18:53:56 +0000] “GET /2011/03/prime-bc/ HTTP/1.1” 200 6047 “http://www.google.ca/search?q=versadex+special+events&hl=en&prmd=ivns&ei=4DBdTrLqJIHksQLY6Jn8Dw&start=40&sa=N” “Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR 3.5.30729)” </em>

It looks like the VPD is looking for an add-on for Versadex for special events. You know, if the RCMP would share their fucking source code for the 2010 database that they used for special events in the region, they probably wouldn’t have to look for a Versadex add-on. Oh wait, that would require cooperation! They wouldn’t give me their source code either!

paroxysms.access.log.25.gz:199.175.219.1 - - [25/Aug/2011:19:51:14 +0000] “GET /2011/07/vancouver-police-department-foi-policy/ HTTP/1.1” 200 7410 “http://www.google.ca/search?q=canada+foi+request+email+police&rls=com.microsoft%3A*&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1&redir_esc=&ei=iKhWTr-XB4PSiALSzaC-CQ&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=” “Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET4.0C; .NET4.0E)” </em>

They needed to see FOI policy, and then saw the e-mail they sent me! I’m guessing that this is the VPD and not City Hall because it’s IE 7, and City Hall is on the whole Open Standards/Open Source thing. So, in the spirit of “Lawful Access”, I lawfully accessed my own files and pulled these nuggets out of them. Fun times!
